Settling in can be a difficult time for both children and their parents. We aim to make this part as easy
as we can, and in order to accomplish this we will:
- Encourage parents to visit the nursery with their children
in the week prior to starting.
- Find out what the child prefers to be known as.
- We will try and accommodate admission procedures if
appropriate, to meet the individual families and children.
- Make clear to families that they will be supported for
however long it takes for their children to become settled
and welcome them to stay for as long as they wish.
- Allow the child to bring in any comforters that are clearly
labelled with the child’s name.
- Encourage parents, where appropriate, to separate from
their children for brief periods first, gradually building up
to longer absences.
- Parents are welcome to telephone when they get home
for as many times as they want in order to reassure
themselves that their child has settled in.
